Dyscalculia
CRA Sequence
One of the best frameworks for teaching mathematics is the CRA sequence. This sequence follows the idea that a child should be taught mathematics beginning with concrete activities moving to representational activities and finishing with more abstract activities.
C- Concrete
Use appropriate concrete hands-on manipulatives to teach particular math concepts.
R- Representational
Use visuals to view math concepts. Teach drawing techniques that create math representations in order to better problem solve.
A- Abstract
Apply math skills to abstract settings (only numbers and math symbols).

What are possible teaching strategies for children with dyscalculia?
Other teaching strategies include direct instruction and strategy instruction.
When teaching basic skills, direct instruction is the most effective approach. Direct instruction is a teacher-centered instruction that typically follows a step-by-step format that requires mastery at each step. The teacher is to offer feedback at each step.
Strategy instruction teaches students how to learn and organize information in a strategic manner so that it can then be retrieved when needed.
